Cragar Wheels History

The company was first founded in 1930 by Crane Gartz and it thrived consistently for the first couple of years. George Wight purchased the company in 1933 and it continued to flourish. When he suddenly passed away, Roy Richter became the owner in 1955.

It wasn’t long before Cragar Wheels made its mark in various drag racing associations, which was a huge step that increased their presence in the industry. The magnesium “Mag” wheels were introduced in 1970, which were specifically designed for high-performance use. Soon after, the Cragar S/S Wheel was born. This unique custom wheel was another significant milestone in the automotive industry.

Classic Styles For Modern Times

Initially, the true classic Cragar wheels ranged in sizes, including 13, 14, and 15 inches. These shiny, alluring wheels were what car enthusiasts dreams were made of. Whether you owned a dragster or a classic car, this was the wheel you wanted to have. At the time, those were the only sizes necessary. By the 1990s, the needs started to evolve. In 2016, Cragar introduced their newest innovation: four new Modern Muscle wheels to keep up with today’s variety of performance vehicles. These models range from 18 to 22 inches and they combine classic street racing style elements with the passion and prestige of the Cragar Wheels tradition.
